Our Story

St. Andrew United Methodist Church was established in 1965 in the new Village of Carol Stream which at that time was two stoplights outside of the City of Chicago on North Ave. Worship began in the gym at what is now Roy DeShane School. In 1970, a church building was constructed on the current site of St. Andrew – 250 N. Gary Ave. The church grew as the Village of Carol Stream grew. In the summer of 1987, a fire burned our church building to the ground. This fire destroyed our building but enlivened the congregation which immediately began making plans for Sunday Worship and Sunday School, choir practice, meeting and office space, and home for our Early Learning Center in alternate locations.  As we looked for these places, the people of St. Andrew received an outpouring of concern, love, and help. For the next 5 years, until the new (current) building was built, we worshiped in the original building of the St. Isidore Catholic Church on Gary Ave. and Army Trail Rd. Our choir practiced at Heritage Presbyterian Church on Kuhn Rd. and our Early Learning Center conducted classes at the Geneva Road Baptist Church. The Brust Funeral Home on Gary Ave. offered us free office space and our pastor’s office for the next five years was in the basement of the Brust Funeral Home.

Our membership grew and we continue to be the United Methodist connection in Carol Stream. Our worship is passionate. Our hospitality is radical and we welcome everyone. Our faith development is intentional as we offer Sunday School for all ages, weekly Bible and book studies, along with occasional educational seminars during the year. We have multiple local outreach activities including a food and clothing pantry and a Veggie ministry as we serve the people of our community in love. A highlight of our outreach is our Immigration Services Clinic and work with the Village of Carol Stream police department in restorative justice.

Our mission is “To Love God and Love Our Neighbor.” We work to honor that mission in all we do and welcome people of our community to join us for worship on Sunday morning. We welcome you to join us if you want to grow your faith and expand your understanding of Jesus and his loving grace for all. We welcome you to join us if you want to learn more of what the Bible has to say about the way of Jesus. We welcome you if you want to serve your neighbors who are in need.

All Are Welcome Here!!!

St. Andrew United Methodist Church of Carol Stream welcomes everyone, honoring the diversity God created. We open our doors, hearts, minds and arms to all people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, country of origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, mental and physical ability, socio-economic condition, education or family status.

While there may be differences among us, we all can love alike, even though we may not think alike. You are invited into full participation in the life of our congregation as we engage in a faith journey toward mutual respect, understanding and greater love.

We welcome you just as you are!
